Q. Is it compulsory for investors to use the new UPI handle only?
Ans. Investors can choose their preferred mode of payment, such as:
- UPI
- IMPS
- NEFT
- RTGS
- Cheques
However, if an investor chooses to make payments through UPI to registered intermediaries, the payment must be made only using the new UPI IDs allotted to the registered intermediaries.
Q. What should I check while making payment using the new UPI ID / QR Code?
Ans. Investors should verify the following before making a payment:
- The UPI ID should display the name of the intermediary, followed by the short abbreviation of their category (for example, “brk” for Brokers or “mf” for Mutual Funds) before the “@” symbol.
- The UPI ID should contain the exclusive handle “@valid”, followed by the bank name.
- On the payment confirmation screen, the app should display a white thumbs-up icon inside a green triangle.
- The QR Code generated using the official utility will also contain a white thumbs-up icon inside a green triangle and display the UPI ID below the QR Code.
Q. Do investors also need to obtain new UPI handles to transact in the securities market?
Ans. No. The new UPI IDs are meant only for registered intermediaries. Investors can continue using their existing UPI IDs for transactions.
Q. Whom should I contact if my transaction/payment fails using the new UPI ID?
Ans. The secure validated UPI IDs of registered intermediaries use the same banking infrastructure as the earlier generic UPI handles. In case of any technical issues or payment failures, investors should contact their respective bank for assistance.
